Scholarly Explanation

The one who is continuously turning [in forgiveness] to those who turn to Him [in repentance] and the one who forgives the sins of the penitent. Everyone who turns to Allah sincerely, Allah turns to them by first granting them the ability to repent and to direct their hearts towards Him, then after this He turns to them by accepting their repentance and forgiving them their errors.

Know they not that Allah accepts the repentance from His slaves and acknowledges their charity, and that Allah is at-Tawwab, Most Merciful?

[at-Tawbah (9): 104]

O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, indeed some suspicion is sin. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it! Fear Allah, indeed Allah is Tawwab, Most Merciful.

[al-Hujurat (49): 12]

Prophetic Traditions

Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than one of you who finds his lost camel in a barren desert.

This powerful analogy shows how much At-Tawwab loves and eagerly accepts the repentance of His servants.

Sahih

Indeed Allah extends His Hand at night so that the sinner of the day may repent, and extends His Hand during the day so that the sinner of the night may repent.

At-Tawwab continuously invites His servants to repent—His door is always open, day and night.

Abu Musa al-Ash'ari رضي الله عنه·Sahih Muslim 2759
Sahih

Scholarly Insights

At-Tawwab's acceptance of repentance has three stages: He inspires the servant to repent, He accepts the repentance when it is made, and He then turns to the servant with mercy and forgiveness. He is At-Tawwab at every stage.

Ibn al-QayyimMadarij as-Salikin
