Scholarly Explanation

The one who has the responsibility to dispose the affairs of the creation in accordance to His knowledge, perfect power and all-encompassing wisdom. The one who looks after His friends and makes the good easy for them, preserves them from evil and suffices for them in all of their affairs. Therefore the one who takes Him as one to be relied upon, He suffices him.

Allah is the Friend of those who believe, He guides them from the darknesses into the light.

[al-Baqarah (2): 257]

Such is Allah your Lord! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Creator of all things. So worship Him Alone, and He is the Wakil over everything.

[al-An'am (6): 102]

And put your trust in Allah, for Allah is sufficient as Wakil.

[al-Ahzab (33): 3]

Prophetic Traditions

If you were to rely upon Allah with true reliance, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds—they go out hungry in the morning and return full in the evening.

This hadith teaches that true tawakkul (reliance on Al-Wakeel) brings provision, but it still requires effort—like the birds that go out to seek.

Sahih (Al-Albani)

'Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best Trustee.' Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ said it when he was thrown into the fire, and Muhammad ﷺ said it when told: 'The people have gathered against you.'

The greatest expression of trust in Al-Wakeel, used by prophets in their most critical moments.

Sahih

Scholarly Insights

Tawakkul has two essential components: relying on Allah with the heart, and taking the necessary means. Neglecting either is a deficiency. The heart depends on Allah while the limbs work.
