The Most High
Prophetic Traditions
أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الْعَبْدُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ وَهُوَ سَاجِدٌ فَأَكْثِرُوا الدُّعَاءَ
“The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration, so increase your supplications therein.”
Although Allah is Al-'Aliyy (the Most High), He is closest to His servant in the lowest physical position—sujud—showing that spiritual closeness transcends physical direction.
Scholarly Insights
Al-'Aliyy encompasses highness in every sense: highness of His essence above creation, highness of His attributes above any imperfection, and highness of His power and dominion over all things.

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى
Subhana Rabbiy al-A'la
“Glory be to my Lord, the Most High.”
Living With This Name

In sujud, remember you are closest to Al-'Aliyy—pour your heart out in supplication.

Humble yourself before Al-'Aliyy; true elevation comes only from Him.

When feeling insignificant, know that Al-'Aliyy sees you from above and nothing escapes His awareness.

Seek highness in character and faith, not in arrogance, for Allah alone is truly Most High.
